Counseling: Listening To and Talking With Parents of Children Who Stutter

Parents play a key role in the treatment of children who stutter. Helping them recognize and cope with their own feelings about their child's stuttering is critical to success in therapy.

In this 50-minute DVD, noted clinicians demonstrate and discuss strategies for counseling parents in all stages of the treatment process as the parent-clinician relationship develops:

• responding during the critical first contact;
• maintaining balance through the ups and downs;
• working with parent groups;
• helping parents separate their own feelings about stuttering from those of the child's.
